Education for the Whole Child
All aspects of our school environment work together to meet the physical, psychological, and emotional needs of the child.
A child's day at Beautiful Sun Montessori is full of learning and discovery. Honoring the sensory learning style of children of this age group, skills and concepts are presented with a corresponding hands-on material.
Subjects included are:
Science (Botany, Zoology, Sustainability)
Training of the Senses
Practical Life Activities
We take our education out on the road once a month to highlight specific science or cultural topics. This helps us understand and better appreciate the lovely Island we live in.
The Prepared Environment
The Montessori Classroom is typically referred to as a Prepared Environment because it is carefully constructed to meet the child's developmental needs. The materials in it are all hands on and teach specific skills as well as help the child to correct himself though his own work. Everything in the classroom is designed for the child's exploration!
Children ages 3-6 work together in the classroom. This mixed age arrangement fosters the development of social skills such as collaboration, cooperation, and social contribution. Younger children are exposed to the older children's work, and are quick to learn what their classmates are doing!
Lessons in the environment are given individually or in small groups. This ensures that every child receives the teacher's full attention while she presents a new material. After the lesson, the teacher carefully monitors the child's repetition and mastery over the material before he is ready to learn a new skill. Children in the classroom learn at their own pace, without needing the group to catch up before moving onto new instruction.
Nurturing a Love of Nature
In order to develop the next generation's love of nature and feeling of stewardship towards the Planet we provide ample time for exploration outdoors and contact with the natural world. Children freely work outdoors and are introduced to the local flora and fauna.
A Community of Learners
At our school, parents and teachers are included in the learning cycle. Through communication with the home, observation of the children, exchange of relevant articles and participation other school related activities such as parent education workshops and our Parent Book Club the learning process is extended to parents and teachers alike!
